Great read
An excellent historical novel about the Deep South.

A prose masterpiece.
I read Street's Dabney saga over 60 years ago in high school. He hooked me on historical fiction. Street's GOOD BYE MY LADY is a must read.
Ordered this book for my elderly Mother. She had wanted a copy for years. I read this also and would recommend this epic novel for anyone who not only loves a wonderfully written book but also a piece of American history.
If you have not read the novel "O Promised Land" by James Street you are missing out on a remarkable reading experience. The novel follows Sam Dabney and his sister Honoria as they forge their way through life in the wilderness of the early 19th century.It is so well written you will not be able to put it down--but when you finish it you will want to pick up the sequel "Tap Roots" which follows the now expanded Dabney clan over the next 50 years
