“I don’t trust tragedies much. It’s easy to make a person sad by showing him something tragic. We all recognize when sad things happen: someone dies, someone loses a loved one, young love is crushed. It’s much harder to make a man laugh—what’s funny to one person isn’t funny to another.”“Themselves, mostly. Rage is a powerful thing. People get upset over many things. Frustrating jobs, small paychecks, bad hours. People want things; people feel humiliated by others who have the things they want; people feel deprived and powerless. All this gives fuel to rage. The anger builds and builds and if there is no outlet for it, pretty soon it transforms the person. They walk around like a loaded gun, ready to go off if only they could find the right target. They want to hurt something. They need it.”
“Humans tend to segregate the world: enemies on one side, friends on the other. Friends are people we know. Enemies are the Other. You can do just about anything to the Other. It doesn’t matter if this Other is actually guilty of any crimes, because it’s a matter of emotion, not logic. You see, angry people aren’t interested in justice. They just want an excuse to vent their rage.” Doolittle sighed. “And once you become their Other, you’re no longer a person. You’re just an idea, an abstraction of everything that’s wrong with their world. Give them the slightest excuse, and they will tear you down. And the easiest way for them to target you as this Other is to find something that’s different about you. Color of your skin. The way you speak. The place you’re from."
“And then there are lost souls like Leslie, so full of selfhatred that they trample the world in a rush to blame someone for their pain.”
I could quote a hundred verses, but this dialog hit home for me, especially in today's struggles.
The humor and inner dialogue is purely amazing. Like visiting an old friend.

Magic Slays Kate Daniels Ilona Andrews Books Reviews
Each book in this series is better than the last!
In Magic Slays, we see Kate now starting her new investigation business, and having trouble getting clients, due to her relationship with Curran. When she finally does land a client, of course the case is not the easiest one for her. With the help of Andrea and Derek, Kate is now in charge of helping to find a missing inventor and his device, as well as to solve a murder. Throw in vampire and a shapeshifter who have gone rogue and Kate has her hands full in this book.
I loved watching Andrea and Kate work out their differences in this book after their blowup in Magic Bleeds, as well as seeing Derek truly start to grow more and more from the kid we met way back in Magic Bites. He is definitely one of my favorite characters in this series, and he’s so protective of Kate, and you can see how much he looks up to her, and I have a feeling that now that Julie is back, him and her may have a story-line going on soon too!
One thing I really liked in this book, is that we got to see Kate and Curran really work together more. Curran let Kate do what she needed to do, but they communicated a lot better and really worked as a team instead of going at each other and then realizing that things would have been so much easier if they would have just worked together from the beginning. These two will never lose their stubbornness, but watching them work together and bounce things off of one another was awesome, even though they did anger each other at times in this book was amazing. Plus seeing them truly together once and for all made my heart happy.
The storyline in this book was one of my absolute favorites in the series so far as well. Seeing how Ilona Andrews took the series, and what they were fighting this time around. How things are starting to shape up, and different alliances that are starting to form is definitely getting interesting. I have a feeling when Roland does come to town, it is going to be one heck of a fight. I love the core group of people Kate has surrounded herself with, but I do have a feeling that some may betray her in upcoming books, I just hope my gut feeling is wrong.
I love the suspense, the angst, and the drama in these books, as well as the fantasy/paranormal elements that drive this series. The plot is amazing and the way this book in particular was written played out like it could have been a movie. I really didn’t want to put my kindle down to go to work or even to sleep, and would pick it right back up so I could find out what happened next. I will say again, if you’re a lover of fantasy/paranormal, I highly suggest picking up the Kate Daniels Series today, as it is a definite must read. You can’t help but fall in love with Kate and her strong will, stubbornness, and her kick butt attitude!
Admittedly this book took a bit to get into. It was slow in the beginning compared to the others. I think I was trying to figure out where this was going to be going. Once I did the flow was fine. I'm weird like that I guess. Anyways, I ended up loving this sooo much! Derek, God you cant help but love that guy. He's 19 but damn he just doesnt seem like it does he? Julie although she's not in this much I really wanted to kill her. Did she not realize Kate was sending her to school for her own protection? Kids...but it ended up kind of working out for her in the end school wise. Andrea is back after disappearing for awhile. I'll get into the in between novellas after I finish the series. I think that will reveal quite a bit about Andrea. Ascanio was a character! 15 year old bouda clan member who is on his way to being a man****e like all the other males in the clan. He is very good looking for such a young age which is why its easy for him to get what he wants. He's spoiled but he does come into his own after Kate and Derek take him in hand. Otherwise his life is over if he cant be controlled. Sad yet but its reality. Kate was his last resort and Curran of course set THAT in motion which pissed her off. She understood and agreed with him she just doesnt like being manipulated by him. He does finally understand he can't do those things. I swear Curran and Kate just work! She's got her doubts as well she should. They do have a few heart to hearts and its rather sweet and hilarious. I just love the humor in these books. I cant wait too read what is next. I'm a little over halfway done. I know this duo is only planning a book 10 then it will be done. Thats the rumor anyways. Thats gonna be a doozy I think. Thats going to be on hell of a fight with Roland and I dont think everyone will come out unscathed. Loved the book and just bought the next. I'll get to it soon. Oh...I think my favorite part was when Kate had to act as Alpha in Curran's stead while he searched for a rogue of the Pack. How she handled Jennifer was awesome. I laughed sooo hard. God that woman just wont give it up. Jennifer does get shaken up in a big way later and its pretty sad.
