Dragon Blood A Novel of the Lupi Book 14 edition by Eileen Wilks Paranormal Romance eBooks
I have truly enjoyed all of the Lupi series, but, as another reviewer mentioned, I am primarily attracted to the personalities, the connections and the familial ties between the main characters. My enthusiasm waned slightly when Lily Yu first went to Dis, though it brought us Gan who is more appealing in this book than ever. I also enjoyed having Madame Li, or the Grandmother as a central character in this book. Eileen Wilks is excellent at creating intriguing characters and remaining true to their story and Grandmother is a lovely creation. But the book was primarily another chapter in a drawn out story line which is increasingly uninteresting. Lily is in another strange realm with dangerous people and Rule is trying to find her. Eventually he does, big fight ensues, lots of magic, they get out of this realm alive but the Great Bitch is still as dangerous as ever but then we have to wait for the next book. Throw in a few dragons and magical axioms and that is the story. Maybe I just missed Cullen.

Dragon Blood A Novel of the Lupi Book 14 edition by Eileen Wilks Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Absolutely excellent.
So we knew that that the children were stolen, but Gan can do some inter-realm traveling. They're brought into Dragonhome, where people speak Chinese. I absolutely loved that Madame Yu was a major character in this book. She's always been Lily's very mysterious grandmother with a rich past, and now we get to learn all about her and dragons.
I was so relieved when they rescued the children, and I loved how the relationship between Rule and Madame Yu blossomed. I thought that she did a good examination of sociopathic dragons who lacked empathy. I was also interested in Reno's role in the book. The GB is unfortunately still around as our major antagonist, so we'll see that continue to go on.
Oh, and if you haven't read Originally Human (World of the Lupi) by Eileen Wilks, you should read that to understand the end and a very short bit somewhere in the middle of the book.
I received a review copy from NetGalley and have left an honest review.
Eileen Wilks is wonderful at world building, and in this book, where the characters have ended up in a new world, she takes that talent to the max. I didn't enjoy it as much as I usually do because it occupies nearly 75% of the book, and the action is a mad rush at the end. Wilks also switches viewpoints a lot, which I generally really enjoy, but here it tends to throw the reader out of the story too much. I would normally have gobbled this down in a one-day marathon read, but it took me a week to read because it just wasn't as engaging as usual. The narrative arc of the series is still fascinating, but this episode was a bit disengaging. Still, it advances the story in interesting ways and sets up the next book. I do love Lily & Rule, and Grandmother Li Lei is explored in a lot of depth. Two "new" characters appear briefly, and are important. They come from a short story of years ago; I hadn't read it and was confused. Before you read this, read their story Originally Human (World of the Lupi) .
I see that some reviewers have said it ends on a cliff hanger; this isn't exactly true. Unlike the last book, which did end on a true cliffhanger, this episode is resolved, but the larger story does continue and the ending points us that way.
and she started singing in the first 40 pages! That's when I started skimming, giving up on one of my all time favorite authors who, it seemed, had decided to clean her files and use every detailed note accumulated over years of series / world building! A marathon of minutiae - explanations on magical workings, societal structure, philosophical debates, Chinese fashion, food, torture and the 50 shades of pain - smothers the plot progression that motivated fans to buy this book! Remember? Cliff hanger! Rescue the children? There are some bright spots in Dragon Blood. Wilks treats us to some of her wonderful character portrayals, by further developing Gan the short, orange, used to be a demon, who now has a soul and lots of sass, and Grandmother always a major player now moved to a more central role. And for readers who have the patience to keep plodding ( or skimming) everything picks up to Eileen Wilks usual can't put it down / read the book overnight pace in the last few chapters. Then......we get....guess what? Another cliff hanger ending! So I'm grumbling all the way to the next installment, which, yes, I'm going to buy. I live in hope that in the next installment, with the files of back material now cleaned out, fans will get a full, fast paced ride of storyline and character interaction. And, please, please, a little resolution!
